Build and Design

The superior solid build quality of the NV sets it apart from many other laptops in the market, the only drawback being the screen lid which should have been stronger, as some small panel distortion is experienced when the back of the screen is squeezed. The palmrest and keyboard have no flex even when pressed firmly. The friction/spring latched screen remains closed in every position being held with one hand, helping to keep dust and foreign objects off the notebook. A resistant clear-coat finish withstands almost all scratches. The interiors are done in a smooth matte finish reducing smudges.

The notebook can be easily upgraded by removing a single Tetris-style panel from the back, providing access to the RAM, hard drive, and wireless card.

Screen and Speakers

The 15.6″ screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9 which gives up some vertical height for some increased horizontal resolution, supporting 720p content scaled up, and 1080p content scaled down, as it is between both resolutions at 1366 x 768. The screen has a seemingly decent quality, but with a limited vertical viewing range, and a noticeable blue or cool tint. The glossy finish gives colors a vivid appearance and improves contrast much better than similar matte-finish displays. The panel is evenly lit with bright LED backlighting,

Vertical viewing angles are fine for about 15-20 degrees of lean forward and back before colors start to fade. Horizontal viewing angles are good for about 60 degrees and then, the brightness of the screen starts to get muted by reflections off the glossy finish.

The speakers produce average sound lacking in good bass and midrange reproduction, with most of the sounds being higher notes without an in-built subwoofer. Highest volume levels are good enough for a small room, but external speakers would be required. This model supports digital audio out over HDMI, it can also be connected to a home theater system for the best results. For private listening headphones are recommended.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The entire width of the chassis is utilized to fit in a full-size keyboard with numeric pad with the size of any primary key remaining same. The keyboard sports a Chiclet-style design without the internal bezel framework and no cupped surface for centering your fingertips. It is comfortable for typing, and doesn’t need much pressure to activate a particular key.

The touchpad is an ALPS model with good touch sensitivity and no considerable lag. The surface has a fine matte finish, easy to glide across, despite having sweaty fingers. The button is a seesaw style single-button, with the left and right side clicking separately.
